Quite often I get asked questions about my work and what I do exactly as an Energetic Healer. Unless you have a couple of hours, I find it really hard to explain with just a few words… However, that is not deterring me from trying! The human energy field has never been seriously considered by mainstream science and traditional Western Medicine, however, it has a paramount role in Chinese and Indian Medicine. So why in the Western society do we relegate energy to “alternative medicine?” I believe that the concepts associated with energy are more complex to explain, as they seem to distance themselves from the cause-effect-remedy paradigm that has guided our general medical practice principles. These concepts involve a qualitative definition. Most often there is an overlap of meanings attached to energetic concepts. Beliefs, morals, judgment and comparison are part of our humanity and we apply those to everything that we come in contact with. Countless times I have heard that in order to “make alternative therapies work, you have to believe in them” and while I recognise that a general curiosity, opening of the mind, and a sense of trust in these therapies does help, I also believe that our reality has a very defined construction that we might not be aware of. I recently began further studies into the field of Vibrational Science and discovered a very grounded, easy to understand (trust me on this) language regarding energy that might make things simpler for a curious mind. I also realised that my initial blog was way too long and too ‘intense’ for a casual reader so I decided to divide it into three parts. The first part that you are about to read revolves around the concepts of energy and vibrations. The second part emphasises resonance and our sense process. The third part will focus on consciousness and awareness. I hope you enjoy my discoveries… It is hard to define what exactly energy is from a scientific point of view. We can identify its components, be it kinetic or thermic, as well as the effects that a particular energy has on our reality, but the true essence of energy is still a mystery. The word energy derives from the Greek word energeia that can be translated as activity or operation. Following the Greek tradition, energy was a qualitative concept that included factors such as happiness and pleasure. In modern physics, energy is a quantitative measurement, and is intended as the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in order to perform work on, or to heat, the object.[1] Modern physics has also established that the total amount of energy of an isolated system remains constant, so it conserves over time. According to modern science, the entire universe was “created” by a single energetic event also known as the Big Bang. If we consider the Universe as an isolated system, it means that it has conserved its initial energy overtime. According to the Big Bang Theory, the Universe has also “evolved” into galaxies, stars and planets, all very different but all carrying a part of that initial energy. Our own planet has changed over time, producing a myriad of life forms including human beings, so we all still carry a fraction of that Universal energy. Looking at facts and theories with these lenses it might be less obscure by saying: Everything is energy. [1] Harper, Douglas. "Energy". Online Etymology Dictionary. Archived from the original on October 11, 2007. Retrieved May 1, 2007. If you are still following my thought process and you are ready to continue onto the next step, let me show you how the concepts of energy and vibrations are connected.
I found that the easiest way to understand this is to think about a very common element on the planet, such as water. Molecules of hydrogen and oxygen make up water’s particles. When the water is in its solid state (ice), these particles are moving at a defined measurable speed. When we raise the temperature (inject energy into the system) and the water becomes liquid, the speed of its particles also increases. By bringing the water to the boiling point (100 degrees Celsius) it changes its form from liquid to gas and the particles increase their speed even more. Water hasn’t changed its composition moving from solid to liquid, only the movements of the particles have increased their speed. We can apply the same analogy to everything else. Matter, the densest form of energy in the Universe, is nothing else but molecules of atoms moving at various speeds. This speed is measured through frequency, which then determines its vibration. In accordance with the two principles explained above, everything is energy. Everything vibrates at different speeds, so a way to “measure” energy is to identify its vibrations. Vibrations can be described as perceived and measurable ‘waves’ emanating from an object: it is a mechanical phenomenon where oscillations occur around an equilibrium point. A classic example is a sound vibration coming from a musical instrument. Its quality is measured on the commonly-known musical scale while its intensity is measured in decibels. Around 510 B.C a Greek philosopher and scientist, Pythagoras, established a connection between the length of cord of a musical instrument and the quality of the sound coming from it, creating basic correlations between a numerical measurement (length) and a qualitative measurement (note). This scientific approach has evolved throughout history finding links between, length, sounds, colours, angles, sense of taste and sense of smell. All of these studies and experiments have created the body of work referred to as the Physics of Quality. If everything in the Universe is energy, the quality of this energy is then measureable using a comparative scale. The precise quality of the energy (balancing, energising, sedating, etc..,) can then be determined and the precise effects can be produced utilising the concept of energy resonance. This brings us to the end of the first part of a detailed blog that I have written with the intention of explaining concepts such energy, vibration and resonance and ultimately, how energetic healing works. I have always had a curious mind. I love science and yet, I am working in a field that most people consider to be nothing more than magic and superstition. Hopefully, I have been able to offer some clarity into these concepts and I look forward to sharing the rest of my blog with you.

How many times do you beat yourself up and think you are not motivated enough, or you simply don’t have what it takes to make meaningful changes in your life? Have you ever thought that probably it’s not a lack in motivation that keeps you stuck, but most likely the fear of making a change? The brains jobThe brain has a very important and delicate job to do; day in and day out, it must accomplish its task, and the shift lasts for 24/7; the main job of our brain is to keep us alive. With more than 7 billions synapses to control and regulate, the brain needs to be efficient and maintain those links and connections that have been proven to be harmless and safe for us. The reason why our brain goes in alarm mode is that we undertake a new course of action or a new experience, that hasn’t been proven safe yet to the brain. Our logical and rational mind knows that if we learn how to drive, we most likely make it through alive; the animal or reptilian part of the brain doesn’t know that yet, so it will provide us with all the possible support of hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol, making sure that we are 100% focused on what we are doing, alert and awake and our senses are more acute than normal. When the experience as been proven to be safe, notice how easy is to drive after 10 years upon receiving your license, then the brain doesn’t go into red alert anymore; neuron synapsis have now been built and the operation becomes a routine; it is end of the danger zone for the brain. danger zone or just a changeNow imagine that you are in the process of making some sort of changes in your life, like a new training routine, changing job or career, wanting to change city or country; this is a red alert area for your brain. When a change from the usual pattern is undertaken, the brain doesn’t know (literally) if it is going to be safe or not, and if the new routine is going to compromise the very existence of the body and life itself. For the most part we might be able to overcome these obstacles after a period of reflection, or talking to someone we trust, asking for advice from an expert, we literally make up our mind. We provide the brain enough evidence that will allow us to undertake the change. Surely this doesn’t happen to start with; it might take a while before we make a final decision; some of us are more prone to risks than others, and for some people these changes will never become reality, and they will experience life from a wishful thinking prospective. support yourself during changes and decision periodsWhile we are making up our mind, it is crucial to support the process and ourselves in the best empowering way. When we start comparing ourselves with others, when we feel we can’t do something because we are not good enough (brave, smart, adventurous, etc.) we undervalue ourselves, and this not only doesn’t help the decision process, but also creates a downward spiral that in some cases can lead to depression.
The first thing that we need to realise is that our brain is sending us signals as it perceives the change as a dangerous process; once we are aware of this, things tend to get easier because we might be able to isolate the negative self talk. Practices like meditation are extremely useful in this situation; during meditation we are able to focus the mind, for example on our breath, and the chatter of the mind dissipates, and with that also the negative self talk. A regular meditation practice has been proven also to bring more oxygen into our brain, allowing it to function in a sharper and more focused way. If you really hit a road block, and the fear of making those changes prevails, it might be useful, exploring techniques like Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as Tapping; this technique has been specifically designed to sedate the fight or flight response of the brain, allowing a less emotional response to blockages, traumas and fears. So when you find yourself in a rut, or blocked, before starting beating yourself up, thinking that there is something missing in you, start creating an environment for yourself that is uplifting but relaxed. You can diffuse peppermint essential oil, meditate more often and for longer, write lists of whys and why nots, so that instead of cluttering your head with disempowering pattern, you help your brain to discover new ones, that they might feel risky to start with, but at the same time are still safe to walk. working on disempowering beliefs with eft techniqueHave you ever wondered what do you really believe regarding yourself and how this affects your life on a daily basis?
Have you ever thought about your beliefs in yourself, and how this affects your daily life? If you have ever caught yourself thinking along the lines of “I will never be successful at this job”, “I will never find true love” or “I can’t go through this”, then this is the blog for you. Our belief system is what makes us who we are. Beliefs are created over the course of our lives; our culture, religion, family, friends and workplace all contribute and help build our beliefs system. Most of our beliefs are formed during our childhood years and they become unconscious and deep to the point that we don’t even realize we have them. Others are created later on in life based on our experiences, events and traumas that define us as a person. A belief can be defined as a thought process that creates solid pathways in our brain and in our system as a whole allowing us to learn and grow. Experiential, Emotional and Cultural Beliefs A belief is formed as a result of a situation, either from a physical, emotional or cultural experience. Once the belief is created, it then stores in our being creating a connection of the type cause-effect that permanently leaves a mark. Emotions are part of a powerful beliefs creating process. “I’m not good enough”, for example, is a belief created by an emotional situation (i.e. living in an abusive family can develop this belief) or by circumstances that are interpreted in a disempowering way (i.e. failing schools tests or loosing sport competitions). Even though we don’t experience physical pain our brain makes the same connections and stores them in the same area. Every belief related to race, economic status, sex and so on it is generally classified as a cultural belief; we have been told and taught certain things or we live in an environment that nurtures particular cultural and educational beliefs. Once again we don’t necessarily have a front line experience with the situation however the neurological connections in our brain work in the same way with an identical storing mechanism. Storing information in our brain is part of our learning process which builds up over the years allowing us to have more complex experiences using this memory based system; every time a similar situation presents itself our brain recalls the same associated feelings even though the experience is not exactly the same. Your autopilot system Once we store a belief in us it becomes part of our navigational system and we travel through life with that unconscious navigational path and filter everything through it. Even though maps are good in order to find directions, if the map is not correctly loaded or the base assumptions are coming from a particular angle the result is that we get lost. Some beliefs are extremely useful and empowering, “harm no others” is a good principle to live by and empower us to have healthy social interactions. However beliefs such as “I’m not good enough” and “Don’t trust your emotions” may have a very disempowering effect on us, and contribute to us not living our lives to our full potential. The beliefs system is similar to the skeleton of the human body, when we are born our bones are soft and fragile and as we grow older they become calcified and stronger. The same process happens for our belief system, from a soft belief system (a new born is open to anything) we calcify it through life experiences, which are still created and perceived throughout our filters, according to the way our brain functions, which again is based on our beliefs. This process creates a loop. Physically and chemically our memories are stored in our brain, when memories through associations become part of our belief system, they are stored in the brain as well. Emotional Freedom Technique - EFT The EFT technique bases its principles on both Easter medicine, in particular Chinese, for which meridians represents its basis, and Western modern medicine and psychology. Meridians, according to the Chinese tradition, are energy pathways that carry the vital energy or Qi all around the body. These pathways have terminal points, also called “endpoint” that surface the body in specific locations, where the physical tapping happens. Physically tapping with our fingers on those points create bio-chemical and emotional reactions within our system, allowing us to reach a relaxed state when our brain doesn’t necessarily use a fixed pathway and remains open to investigation and new possibilities. During an EFT session with a trained practitioner you will be encouraged and guided to explore a particular aspect of your life, such as a belief or a life experience and facilitate in processing that in the most empowering way for you. Having an emotional attachment with a particular situation doesn’t create room for processing information, viewpoints and possibilities; we literally hit a block created by our brain in order to protect us to avoid discomfort such as pain, anxiety and fear that create stress on our bodies. EFT allows us to get pass that emotional attachment and response not causing that stressful emotional reaction. Once you learn the basic principles of the tapping sequence you can use this technique on your own allowing your self-exploration and healing process to develop in your own time. Do you feel you are hitting roadblocks in your life and nothing seems to change? Do you keep repeating the same experience over and over and don’t know what to do next? Do you often wonder how can I get past this? Do you think this is who I am and I can’t change? These are some of the questions that can be resolved and released during EFT sessions. A positive aspect of EFT is that is a “take away” technique that allows you to be in charge of your life in order to unfold your full potential. The age of shouldThe way we think and express ourselves, and especially our unconscious thinking patterns affects deeply our subtle energetic field, our life and ultimately our health. Have you ever caught yourself thinking or feeling you are not good enough?
Comparing ourselves to others We are literally bombarded by images and information every second of the day through our phones, computers, television, books, magazines and so on; it is the 21st century and we are not living in isolated communities anymore and unless you put some serious efforts into it you can’t avoid being reached by newsfeed, comments, photos, tags and all sort of inputs. When any kind of information reaches our awareness level, our brain does what it does best. It tries to fit the information in our unique system of experiences and beliefs. It starts to compare in order to create pathways that are supposed to make our life easier and smoother. Looking at the photo of someone that we love and care about awakens emotions like happiness, lightness, and joy that lift a notch our energetic level, expanding it. On the other side looking at a war zone photo may awake emotions like sadness, anger, frustration that actually contract our energetic field, causing its implosion. So what happens when we look at, or read about something that has been photoshopped, cut and pasted, tailored to look perfect? We start feeling that we are missing out and in order to get there we should… I should vs I want How many times have we deleted a text message thinking that we shouldn’t write that, or thinking that what we wrote doesn’t sound good? Our real time communication is not actually real. Most of the time it is a cut and paste in order to achieve the best possible outcome. When we are having a real conversation we don’t have the luxury to delete what we just said in order to say something different. The response we get is based on a real situation more than a hypothetical one. The dynamics are completely different and that’s why we are struggling so much with interpersonal relationships these days. We are use to communicating with lags and we carry around this feeling of insecurity, inadequacy that contracts our energetic field. This creates blockages in our major energy centres and doesn’t allow us a smooth progression in our life and we feel stuck in a situation that keeps repeating under different circumstances. In my years of practice with Energetic Healing I have experienced often-contracted energetic fields and the results are a sense of being unfulfilled, unhappy and a general discontentment with life. When I hear a “should or shouldn’t” phrase during a session I always ask the reason why the client said that. A classic example could be “I shouldn’t work so hard”; when I then ask the reason why I often get an answer like this: “Because I am too stressed, I am not having quality time for myself and the people I love, and I’m not doing what I care most about”. Have you ever heard this self-talk before? I’m sure you have. Here is the beginning of the healing process. I asked the client to rephrase what just has been said in an empowering way and after a few attempts they usually come out with something like: “I want more time to look after myself; I want to spend quality time with people I love and I want to do what makes me happy”. From should mentality we move into the space of want. Starting from the want space Understanding what we want may not be the easiest thing to do, however knowing that we want to be happy, we want to feel fulfilled in our lives, finding our purpose and meaning to our soul and spirit is pretty much a common thread. Some of our needs are so hidden by layers and layers of “should” that we don’t even realise that they are there. This is the reason why I am so passionate about Energetic Healing. We carry every possible emotion, event and thought in our Energetic field, from birth to the present day. With practice and sensitivity an Energetic Healer can read all this and the unfolding process can start. Peeling away old and disempowering thinking patterns and habits really opens the door to self knowledge and awareness that will clear our mind, body and spirit to the meaningful, fulfilling and happy side of our lives. New Year’s resolutions are often a long list of should: I should loose weight, I should exercise more, I should find a better job, and so on. What could be the best New Year’s resolution that you can make is to start finding the wants in your life: I want to feel happy, I want to work in that industry, I want to be healthy. Once the wants are clear then the process of goal setting can start; we can set small achievable goals and witness the unfolding process of life while we adjust our internal compass with the different circumstances. We move towards any goal with an active attitude more than a passive-reactive one. Would you start running a marathon with a fifty kilos weight on your shoulder? Start to take that weight off little by little by giving yourself a chance to know yourself for who you really are and what you really want out of your life; start 2017 with the Want and not with the Should. |
